Dare to be Different!

Why is it we feel the need to conform to what society says we should be? Why do we feel we have to be anything but ourselves?

Too often, lately, I have heard people say that they “should” do or be something they aren’t – to fit in, to be liked, or just to be accepted.

We all have something unique to offer the world and it would be bloody boring if we were all the same – If we all looked and dressed the same, if we all liked the same things – I mean… yawn!

dare to be different

I’m not preaching here, but we should just love and embrace who we are. We always want more or better – what about what we already have? We all want to be liked, we all want to be accepted; but there comes a point when other things become more important than being liked. Like upholding our values and morals

We hide the real us! We bury it, and we lose ourselves in the process. Maybe that’s why many of us feel stuck and lost at certain points in our lives: we have spent too long pretending to be something we are not, suppressing what comes naturally to us and conforming to the expected standard of the modern world we live in.

It takes great courage to stand up, fight and live your truth despite what anybody else might think, but you deserve to give that to yourself. We all do. We can’t live through or for other people. We have to live for ourselves, we have to be our own best friends, be kind to ourselves and love ourselves – and then share that with others.

We don’t always get a choice about the things that happen to us, but we do choose how we respond to them. Life is a series of choices, every single day. You choose to get out of bed in the morning and take yourself to work; you choose whether to have cereal or toast for breakfast; you choose what you will wear that day… choices: they are ours to make.

I choose to go to a job I don’t enjoy every day, because it’s easier than taking the risk of working for myself. However, taking that risk would have the potential to make me happy and successful and give me exactly the life I want to have. I have a choice too!

I am constantly inspired by the people around me who honour who they are. Live their dreams and who takes the risk and dare to become exactly who they are meant to be. No filter, and no excuses. Let’s be who we are meant to be and help others do the same.

I hope this inspires you to be bolder, braver and less scared to be different. Different can be positive, lets embrace that.
